I enjoy using accessories and furnishings to transition from season to season, refreshing our lives with new perspectives.
Here are three simple interior design ideas to help transition your interior from summer to autumn:
- Change your indoor flower arrangements. Plant a large container with transitional blooms like hydrangeas, muscaris, dahlias, or even grapes. A glazed pot or an antique French scale will look wonderful with an assemblage of pink garden roses, huckleberry branches, crab apples, and maple foliage. Silk flowers look real enough to smell and are increasingly popular.
- Replace your throws, pillows, and bedding with autumn fabrics using neutral palettes and rich accents. This year, interiors are showing an array of blends including bold Art Deco silks and embroidered motifs. There are highly textured and printed linens, embroidered wools, and lush cut velvets, with the Deco fabrics ornamented by metallic threads and over-scale designs.
- Layer your wood floors with area rugs to add richness and warmth and to create an autumnal ambiance. Put a small rug on top of a large one. Be fearless and pile up three rugs mixing colors, textures, and patterns to create something unique.
