During the first week of October, I had the privilege to attend the Boston Design Market, where we attended several workshops and lectures to learn more about the latest trends in decorating and design.
One of the lectures I attended focused on the latest porcelain tile trends and the benefits of porcelain tile. I’m proud to pass our thoughts on that lecture on to you.
Porcelain Tile’s Appearance
Personally, I love the appearance of porcelain tile because it can have a narrower grout line than most other types of tile.
Its rectified edge allows for grout lines as narrow as 1/16 inch while other tile requires 1/8-inch grout lines. This thinner grout line creates a cleaner look.
Another advantage of porcelain tile is that it is incredibly thin. This thinness allows it to be applied over existing tile, which makes the installation process quick and easy.
Porcelain Tile as a Green Choice
Most home interior products, including porcelain tile, must be transported long distances before they arrive in your home.
The raw materials are mined or harvested, sent to the factory, then sent to a distributor, then to a warehouse, then sometimes to regional warehouses, to the store, and finally your home.
Since porcelain tile is lighter weight than other tile types, it requires less energy to transport, thus leading to a reduced carbon footprint.
Other Benefits of Porcelain Tile
- No volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted by the tile.
- Porcelain tile has a very long life-span, and it is wear-resistant.
- Porcelain tile does not absorb moisture or stains.
- Available in a wide range of styles and qualities, it can fit any budget.
- Each tile has a consistent appearance.
